Hair loss is no longer an issue exclusive to middle-aged and elderly people; it has become a prevalent health concern among young adults today. Factors such as chronic sleep deprivation, heavy work pressure, irregular schedules and unbalanced diets have plunged many young people into hair-loss distress: excessive hair shedding during shampooing and combing, plus numerous fallen hairs on pillows after waking up. Many individuals experience receding hairlines, widened parting lines on the crown, fine and limp hair strands, and noticeable thinning hair volume. Numerous people have tried popular anti-hair-loss shampoos, ginger hair treatments and high-priced hair care oils, yet with limited real-world improvements. Most conventional hair-care products on the market only deliver surface-level scalp cleansing and temporary hair softness, and cannot target hair follicles to address hair loss at its root. Spermidine, a natural active substance produced naturally within the human body, boasts proven safety and hair-growth-supporting properties. It breaks through the limitations of traditional hair-care products and serves as a promising active ingredient for follicle care and hair-loss management.
Healthkintai® is a professional Chinese manufacturer and supplier of cosmetic and dietary supplements raw materials. For your hair-care formula development needs, we offer two types of spermidine raw materials: spermidine powder extracted from wheat germ (natural source) and chemically synthesized spermidine powder. Both options can accommodate different formula positioning, cost budgets and compliance requirements. We support sample requests and provide complete technical documentation, and can assist you with formula trials and product launch. What Is Spermidine?

Spermidine is a natural polyamine active substance widely present in humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. It is a vital component for maintaining human cellular health and normal cellular metabolism, and takes part in multiple key physiological processes including cell proliferation, tissue repair, substance metabolism and anti-aging. Endogenous spermidine levels in the human body are dynamic. Affected by aging, irregular lifestyles and chronic mental stress, the body's self-synthesized spermidine gradually declines over time. Such changes in internal spermidine levels serve as an important intrinsic factor contributing to reduced follicle activity, deteriorated hair quality and aggravated hair loss among adults. Simply put, insufficient spermidine can accelerate scalp follicle aging and dormancy, weakening hair-growth capacity.
Spermidine can also be obtained from daily diets. It is abundantly found in wheat germ, mushrooms, legumes and nuts. Nevertheless, dietary intake delivers limited dosage with relatively low bioavailability. To achieve targeted follicle-care effects, external scalp care or professional dietary supplementation are preferable approaches to act directly on the scalp and hair follicles.
Does Spermidine Help Hair Growth?
Existing research suggests that spermidine holds potential for supporting hair health. As a natural polyamine, in-vitro experiments and animal models have confirmed that spermidine can regulate the activity of hair follicle stem cells and prolong the hair follicle growth phase. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 100 healthy participants found that after 90 consecutive days of oral supplementation with spermidine dietary supplement, the proportion of anagen-phase hair follicles increased by an average of 52%, whereas the placebo group saw a 20% decline. Elevated expression of the cell-proliferation marker Ki-67 and reduced expression of the apoptosis-related marker c-Kit were observed.
Follow-up results indicated that all participants in the spermidine intervention group tested negative in the hair pull test six months after supplementation was discontinued, compared with 68% of participants in the placebo group who tested positive. This demonstrates that the follicular improvements induced by this intervention carry a certain sustained effect.
How Does Spermidine Promote Hair Growth and Prevent Hair Loss?
Activating Dormant Hair Follicles
For many people experiencing hair loss, hair follicles are not completely non-viable; instead, they remain in a prolonged dormant and atrophic state, making it difficult to produce healthy new hair. Existing research indicates that spermidine may help activate autophagy mechanisms within scalp hair follicles, assisting in the removal of accumulated metabolic by-products, oils and aged substances inside follicles. It supports damaged follicular cells and may improve the condition of dormant and atrophic hair follicles. Meanwhile, it can participate in regulating hair-follicle-growth-related signalling and modulate the natural hair growth cycle, potentially lowering the likelihood of follicles entering the catagen and shedding phases prematurely. These are the distinctive potential attributes of spermidine compared with conventional hair-loss-prevention care products.
Extending Growth Phase
Spermidine is a polyamine compound. It can activate the autophagy mechanism of hair follicles, up-regulate the expression of hair follicle stem cell markers K15 and K19, enhance the proliferative capacity of matrix keratinocytes, and inhibit the apoptotic pathway of hair follicle cells. By these means, it delays the transition of hair follicles from the anagen phase to the catagen phase, prolongs the hair follicle growth cycle, increases the proportion of hair follicles in active growth status, and reduces the risk of premature hair shedding. This effect has been verified by ex-vivo hair follicle organ culture and human randomized controlled trials. It also preserves the self-renewal function of hair follicle stem cells and alleviates hair follicle cycle disorders.

Spermidine for Grey Hair
Spermidine may help improve aging-related gray hair. It induces autophagy to clear damaged organelles and aged proteins within hair follicles. With its antioxidant properties, it alleviates oxidative stress damage to melanocytes caused by free radicals, protects TRP-1 and TRP-2 proteins involved in melanin synthesis, reduces the risk of protein degradation, and sustains the normal physiological activity of melanocytes. Meanwhile, it safeguards follicular melanocyte stem cells, delays stem cell depletion, prolongs the hair follicle growth phase, and helps maintain melanin-producing capacity in hair follicles. This effect mainly applies to aging-induced gray hair, and there is no proven benefit for congenital hereditary gray hair.

Spermidine Supplement for Hair Growth
Supported by scientific research demonstrating its ability to induce autophagy in hair follicle cells and prolong the anagen phase of hair follicles, spermidine has become a popular ingredient in hair-care dietary supplements. Mostly sourced from natural raw materials such as wheat germ extract, it is often formulated into capsules and tablets in combination with biotin, zinc and B-complex vitamins.
Targeting consumers concerned about thinning hair and follicular aging, it serves as a structure-function nutrient to support hair follicle cell health. Structure-function claims related to hair follicle maintenance are permissible in the market, making it a key alternative ingredient for the hair-focused segment within the anti-aging nutrition sector.
