Carbidopa, however, cannot cross into the brain but can inhibit the activity of these decomposing enzymes in the periphery. The most common ratio is carbidopa : levodopa = 1:4.Main strengths:

Maximum daily dosage:Levodopa: up to 1600 mg per day; Carbidopa: up to 400 mg per day

The total daily dose should be divided into 3-4 doses. Start with a low dose and increase gradually; maximum dose is not recommended at initial use.

Single-entity Preparations (Combined Use)

For patients who need flexible dosing. Use both single-ingredient products under medical supervision:

Levodopa: maximum 2000 mg daily; Carbidopa: maximum 500 mg daily

The recommended ratio is levodopa : carbidopa ≈ 4:1.Carbidopa must not be used alone—it is ineffective and may increase side effects.

Long-term or heavy overdose may cause serious problems such as dyskinesia, nerve damage, and increased burden on liver and kidney function.
